We are continuing to make improvements to our network of paths so that walking, wheeling and cycling are easier.
Our focus is now on National Cycle Network 1 (NCN1).
We are looking to upgrade the section from Easthaven to Elliot Links west of Arbroath, and we want to hear your thoughts.
This project focuses on a section of the NCN1 that runs from Penston Burn to East Haven in Angus, as demonstrated in the map found in the Project Area section.
A previous feasibility study was delivered in 2023. This current project looks to carry out detailed design of the route upgrades with a view to apply for funding from Transport Scotland for construction.
The initial consultation took place last year and as a result of the comments received, the Council, via Transport Scotland’s Active Travel Tier 1 General Capital Grant funding, has commissioned Stantec to provide further detailed designs for this route.
A number of suggestions for path improvements were proposed in last year’s consultation. Based on this information, we are proposing the following:
2.5m shared use path throughout route
resurfacing throughout route
improved drainage throughout route
existing bridges to be replaced with new structures that are widened and more accessible
existing access at East Haven to be reviewed
How to have your say
This current project seeks to address what further facilities you would like to see along the route, to complement the proposed path improvements.
The information collated at this stage will help to inform the development of designs that reflect the needs and aspirations of the local community.
The consultation period will be open for 4 weeks from 18 November to 16 December 2024.
