Spring 2025 update

02 Apr 2025

Brechin Recovery Operational Group

Following on from hosting community information sessions at the end of 2024, the council has been investigating specific feasibility and delivery practicalities and considerations for all the potential recovery options with internal stakeholders. We met with a steering group comprising of local elected members to update and seek input on the proposed approach and next steps.

Officers are developing a programme of the key tasks and decision-making required, supported by a plan for sharing information with the community and opportunities for the community to give feedback on options.

Approaches have been narrowed down to three to four main options, which set out the best possible positive flood recovery approaches for the future and will be set out in a report to the council's communities committee in May.

Options relating to the future of the council's housing stock are more complex. Therefore, no immediate decisions will be made about this at the May meeting, as we want to ensure the wider area has the opportunity to help shape the options around the stock. Engagement on this will follow.

As well as looking into the longer-term recovery options for the entire flood affected area, officers are also looking into a range of shorter term resilience/area improvement options. Future information on this will be provided in May, linked to the forthcoming Community Resilience Roadshow.

Housing update

The Housing Team will be out in the local community over the next few weeks to check in with residents and listen to any thoughts you may have about the progress we have made so far and the next steps of the flood recovery process. We’ll be knocking on doors and walking around the area too, so please stop us if you would like to chat about anything.

Fly tipping has again been highlighted as an issue. Our Waste Management Team has carried out a thorough clean-up of the area, but please let us know, if you see further fly tipping.

We know that the cost of heating properties is a financial burden for some residents. If you are struggling to afford to heat your home, then please get in touch and we can make a referral to SCARF who may be able to help you.

If you have any urgent issues or concerns, please contact your Housing Officer, Sharon Bell on 07824350883 or bells1@angus.gov.uk(External link) or attend the weekly drop-in sessions - every Thursday morning at The Crickety between 9.30am and 12 noon.
