Angus Council have produced 8 draft Woodland Management Plans for the woodlands in your area.

We would like to hear your views and comments on the draft plans. In each survey there is an opportunity to add comments, ask questions and leave your email if you would like a response.

What is a Woodland Management Plan (WMP)?

Woodland Management Plans are a tool to record objectives and findings in a woodland. They also identify issues, opportunities and develop a possible work plan - subject to funding.

We have followed the Scottish Forestry guidance on the development of Woodland Management Plans. There are two types of WMPs used for Angus.

Woodlands In and Around Town (WIAT)

WIAT is an initiative tool to enhance woodlands in and around towns, for the benefit of residents and the environment.

Supported by funding to encourage proposals to be constructed, it aims to work with residents and provide additional funding, especially in deprived areas. Take a look at the Scottish forestry video on WIAT.

It enhances residents' access to well managed and welcoming local woodlands.

See the map of woodland management locations.

Rural Woodland Management Plans (RMPs)

This is a management tool used to record issues and propose works. It sets out a future management vision.

If you would like to understand more about forest and woodland management visit Scottish Forestry.

How to have your say

1. First read the guidance

Our guidance document will help you understand the plans. The plans are designed to be a management tool for a woodland landowner. The format is set by Scottish Forestry and we understand it may not be easy for everyone.

2. View the WIAT or RMP for the area you are interested in

Have a look at the Location Map showing where each WIAT or RMP covers. There are links to the woodland plans and maps for each area elsewhere on this page.

3. Tell us what you think

There are then three ways to have your say:

  • complete a survey - there is a separate short survey for each area
  • post a general comment
  • use the location tool to share your thoughts on your local woodlands

Paper copies of the documents and surveys will be available in libraries during the consultation period. WIAT plans will be available in the related local library, RMP for the Countryside Parks will be located in the Monikie Information Centre and the RMP Small Rural Woodlands will be located in Forfar and Arbroath Libraries.

Deadline

The consultation will close on Monday 23 September 2024.

Following public consultation, the WMPs will be updated and submitted to Scottish Forestry for approval. If you have requested a reply to a specific comment, we will contact you after the consultation period.
