Montrose Golf Links
Angus Council is considering a proposal to grant a long-term lease of Montrose Golf Links to Montrose Golf Links Ltd (MGLL), with day-to-day operation of the courses being undertaken by The Ancient Links Golf Company Ltd (ALGC).
Background to the proposals
Montrose Golf Links is a Montrose Common Good asset and is currently managed by Montrose Golf Links Limited (MGLL). The existing management arrangements are due for renewal and, following discussions with MGLL and a potential investment partner, proposals have been developed to secure the long-term future of the Links.
The proposals aim to support significant investment in the courses and facilities, protect public access, maintain affordable opportunities for Angus residents to play golf, and help ensure the long-term sustainability of this important Common Good asset.
Detail of what is being proposed
The proposed arrangements include:
- Investment of at least £3 million in the Links over the first five years.
- Protection of public access to both courses.
- Priority access and discounted pricing for Angus residents.
- Continued operation of the 1562 and Broomfield courses as public golf facilities.
- Ongoing oversight by Angus Council through legally binding agreements covering access, pricing and course standards.
Further details are provided in the Proposed Lease Key Features and Golf Access Rights Agreement (GARA) Key Features documents (see Supporting Documents).
