Angus Council are proposing to:
demolish the former Brechin Leisure Centre and adjacent storage building
remove the neighbouring derelict astroturf football pitch
The former Leisure Centre was lying empty before Storm Babet. The council’s parks team use part of the adjacent storage building for storage. Before Storm Babet it was partly occupied by Brechin Pipe Band.
The council has received an offer from its insurers to settle the claim in relation to these properties. This offer is still to be finalised. However, it would cover the cost of demolishing the Leisure Centre and the storage building.
Following demolition, the area of land would be grassed and reinstated as open space.
Future use of the area would be the subject of further engagement with the community.
Section 104 of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 requires us to consult the community before disposing or changing the use of common good land or property.
If you would like to comment on the proposal please email CommEngagement@angus.gov.uk or you can send them to Vibrant Communities, Angus House, Orchardbank Business Park, Sylvie Way, Forfar DD8 1AN.
Representations must include the name and address of the person making it and representations will be published.
The consultation period will be open for 8 weeks, from 23 July until 19 September 2025.
Copies of the public notice will also be displayed in the local library and at the site.
