Make active travel part of your routine

Active travel doesn’t have to be all or nothing — small, consistent changes can make a big difference. Here’s how to build it into your everyday life:

Daily habits

  • Commute actively: walk, cycle, or use a mobility aid for part or all of your journey to work or school.
  • Park and stride: if driving is necessary, park further away and walk the rest.
  • Short trips, active choices: walk or cycle to local shops and amenities instead of driving.
  • Mix with public transport: use buses or trains alongside walking to make longer journeys more active.

Weekly routines

  • Choose one day a week for active commuting — like a “walk to work” day.
  • Join or start walking or cycling groups with friends or colleagues.
