Angus Council is proposing to withdraw the 36 bus service and replace it with a Demand Responsive Service.

(Service 36 journeys to and from Hospitalfield will be maintained, but renumbered)

Help ensure the service meets your needs by taking part in our survey.

About the demand responsive service

The service will operate on all adopted roads within the areas displayed on the map below, meaning many passengers will be picked up at their door or road end.

If you are not on an adopted road we will agree a safe pick-up point, as close to you as possible.

The bus will drop off (and pick up for return journeys) at any stop in Friockheim, Arbroath Bus Station, health centres and Arbroath supermarkets.

You don’t have to live in one of the areas but you do have to be travelling to or from one of them.

Friends, family and other visitors could use the service from Friockheim and Arbroath pick-up points and return.

When to book

You will be able to book the bus between:

  • 7:30am and 6:30pm, Mondays to Fridays

  • 8:30am and 6:30pm on Saturdays

We will offer you a pick-up time as close to your requested journey as possible.

If you want to make a connection or an appointment we’ll do our best to get you there in good time, but you may have to accept an earlier time.

You will need to book your journey(s) by 3pm the day before travel (or for Monday pickups, on the Friday before).

We would also take bookings up to four weeks in advance. We will call or text to confirm pick-up times, after booking closes, the day before travel.

Journeys will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to book

Bookings can be made by phone, Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm, or email.

The first time a passenger calls, we’ll ask:

  • name, address, telephone

  • do you have a bus pass

  • journey date, time, pick up/drop off location

  • any bus connections you wish to make and destination

  • accessibility information – do you use a wheelchair or walking frame or require a companion

We’ll also ask permission to keep these details on file so next time they call we just need the journey details. You do not have to agree to this to use the service.

An information and booking app will be available soon. This will allow passengers to book much closer to the intended journey time. We will let passengers know when the app is available.

About the bus

The bus is a wheelchair accessible minibus.

Passengers will be able to use under 22, disabled person and over 60 bus passes.

This survey will close at 5pm on 17 July 2026.
